FROM PASSION TO PURPOSE: HOW VISION & MISSION WILL SHAPE YOUR YOGA TEACHING SUCCESS

AS A YOGA TEACHER, IT’S IMPORTANT TO HAVE A CLEAR VISION AND MISSION FOR YOUR TEACHING CAREER.

This will help you to build a path forward that is intentional and inspired and it will help you to stand out in the crowded yoga industry, and to attract students who resonate with your message and teaching style.

In this blog, we'll explore why having a vision and mission is important and will help you to stand out in your teaching career and will help you to build a teaching career that is heart based and passion led, and how you can go about building one for yourself.

First, let's define what we mean by vision and mission. Your vision is a statement of your long-term aspirations and goals with your teaching. It's a picture of what you want your teaching career to look like in the future. Your mission, on the other hand, is a statement of your purpose and values. It's a declaration of why you do what you do, and what you hope to achieve through your teaching. This could include the impact you want to make in your students lives and the world with your teachings and yoga business.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE A VISION AND MISISON?

1. IT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER TEACHERS

In a crowded yoga industry, having a clear vision and mission can help you differentiate yourself from other teachers. When potential students see that you have a unique message and purpose, if they resonate with that, they're more likely to be drawn to your classes.

2. IT GIVES YOU DIRECTION

When you have a vision and mission, you have a clear sense of where you're going and why. This can help you make decisions about your teaching career and prioritise your time and energy. Having a values map and the mission of WHY you’re building and doing what you’re doing, will give you a compass to move from and to check back in to when you are maybe feeling a bit off track. It will keep you moving in a way that feels aligned and intentional.

3. IT HELPS YOU STAY MOTIVATED

When you have a strong sense of purpose and values, you're more likely to stay motivated and committed to your teaching career. The journey of building a successful teaching career and becoming the teacher you want to be will be filled with ups and down. Having a clear vision and knowing your values and mission will help to keep you on track when things get inevitably tough. Having this road map in place can help you overcome obstacles and stay focused on your goals.

How can you go about building a vision and mission for your yoga teaching career? Here are some steps you can take:

1. Reflect on your values and purpose

Take some time to reflect on why you became a yoga teacher in the first place. What values and beliefs underpin your teaching? What do you hope to achieve through your teaching? Write down your thoughts and ideas.

2. Think about your unique strengths and skills

What sets you apart as a teacher? What are your unique strengths and skills? What are you passionate about sharing? How has yoga changed your life? How can you leverage these to achieve your goals?

3. Consider your ideal student

Who do you want to teach? What kind of student resonates with your message and teaching style? What do you hope to achieve for your students?

A lot of the time what happens when we are thinking about our ideal student is that it is us 3-5 years ago. We have found that yoga has helped us in some way and we are then able to share this with and help others.

4. Draft a vision and mission statement

Based on your reflections, draft a vision and mission statement for your teaching career. Your vision statement should be a clear and inspiring picture of your long-term aspirations, while your mission statement should be a concise and powerful declaration of your purpose and values.

5. Review and refine

Once you've drafted your vision and mission statement, review it regularly and refine it as needed. As your teaching career evolves, your vision and mission may need to be updated to reflect new goals and priorities.

Building a vision and mission for your yoga teaching career can help you stand out in the crowded yoga industry, attract students who resonate with your message and teaching style and will allow you to build a career that is purpose driven, inspired and in alignment with who you are and what you believe in.

By taking the time to do the inner work and self development, by reflecting on your values, strengths, and purpose, you can create a clear and inspiring vision and plan your long-term goals and a powerful declaration of your purpose and values.
