🌿 SELF-LEADERSHIP: THE QUIET SUPERPOWER THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING IN YOUR TEACHING CAREER
This morning, I gave myself the gift of time.
I moved my body first, just a few wiggles on the mat to shake the night away.
I rolled a little Frankincense essential oil over my heart before sitting down to anchor myself with grounding and focus.
This simple ritual reminds me: you are here, you are steady, you are already enough.
I sat for fifteen minutes in meditation.
I have rituals in place now, and I put my self-care first before anything else has a chance to pull at my energy.
I even took a few moments to journal, ironing out internal blocks and setting a clear intention for the day, before checking my phone, replying to messages, or diving into the day, grounded, intentional and able to sustain my energy.
I’m not sharing this to present a perfect morning routine.
I’m sharing it because, for a long time, my mornings looked very different.
There was a time when I would roll out of bed at the last possible minute, rush to the studio feeling half-prepared, and step into teaching already frazzled and scattered.
And honestly, it showed.
I felt rushed.
I doubted myself.
I was constantly trying to catch up, both in my day and in my own mind.
And by the end of the day and especially by the end of the week, I was completely shattered.
A real shift for me didn’t come from working harder or cramming more into my schedule.
It came from something deeper.
It came from deciding what I wanted my days, and my life to look like, and then learning to lead myself first.
🌿 What is Self-Leadership?
Self-leadership is walking your talk.
It’s meaning what you say, and saying what you mean.
It’s moving for you first… before you move for anyone else.
It’s not waiting for someone to tell you what to do it’s deciding for yourself how you want to move through the world.
It’s taking full responsibility for your life, your career, your energy, and your dreams.
It’s putting on your big girl pants and saying,
"You can do this. I believe in you."
instead of waiting for outside validation.
And then backing it up with loving, aligned action.
When it comes to being a yoga teacher and building a career you’re proud of self-leadership is everything.
It’s not about waiting for someone to give you permission.
It’s not about waiting for “one day” when you’re magically ready.
It’s about making that day today.
Because the truth is, your students, your opportunities, and your confidence aren't waiting somewhere down the road.
They are shaped by how you show up for yourself right now.
🌸 Tools I Use to Anchor My Self-Leadership
Self-leadership isn’t just a mindset.
It’s a daily practice.
Over the years, I’ve found a few simple tools that help me ground into it consistently:
Journalling - A few minutes of honest reflection helps me tune into what I need to shift and let go of, what I want to call in, and where I’m being called to step up. This helps me to clear any limiting beliefs, work on my mindset and make sure I’m not being controlled by sub conscious narrative that is going to block me from moving forward.
Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils - This is the good stuff.
Just a few deep breaths of specific oils can change your energetic state instantly, depending on what you need in different moments of the day.
I love using Frankincense for grounding in the morning, Wild Orange for a midday sunshine pick-me-up, and Lavender in the evening to hold my nervous system and support deep sleep.Intentional Planning - Instead of overwhelming to-do lists, I focus on small, meaningful priorities.
I like to list everything out, then choose just three things to prioritise for the day.
These small rituals remind me that I am the one steering the ship
not my schedule, not my fears, not anyone else’s expectations.
Self-leadership is built one small, intentional choice at a time.
✨ A Self-Leadership Practice (and Journal Prompts) for You
Each morning this week, before the noise of the day sets in, take a quiet moment for yourself.
Maybe it’s breathing in an oil, jotting down a thought, or simply placing a hand on your heart and asking:
👉 "How can I lead myself today?"
If you want to explore a little more deeply, here are some journal prompts you might find supportive:
🌸 Where in my life am I waiting for permission to take the next step?
🌸 What small act of self-leadership could I practise today?
🌸 How would it feel to trust myself a little more this week?
🌸 What does leading myself with love, not pressure, look like right now?
There’s no perfect way to do this.
It’s the showing up that matters.
🌼 Final Thoughts
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more about how to grow your confidence, your teaching skills, and your yoga business, from the inside out.
Not through hustle.
Not through comparison.
But through soulful strategy, real support, and leadership that starts within.
If you’re feeling the pull toward your next season,
to teach more boldly, to live more fully, and to lead from a place of true alignment,
just know:
I see you.
And there’s a space being created for you. 💛
But for today, start small.
One breath.
One act of devotion.
One decision to back yourself.
You are already so much more powerful than you know.
And you are exactly where you need to be.
With love and belief in your path,
Amy xx
